Use your math skills when you shop for groceries to help you find the price by unit of a product. Compare between brands by choosing the lowest unit price. Divide the price of the product by the package weight to get the unit price.
Utilize math in cooking when you follow a recipe that needs to be increased or decreased. If your recipe serves four, but you have eight people coming for dinner, multiply the amount of each ingredient by two, doubling your recipe. If you need to only cook for two, divide each ingredient amount by two to halve the recipe.
Use math to create a family budget. A budget is how much money you have to spend and the things you have to spend it on. Record the amount of money coming in and estimate costs for groceries, utilities and any additional expenses. Subtract your costs and expenses from the money coming in for how much you have to spend. Adjust your spending according to your available funds so that you are living within your means.
Use math to balance your checkbook. Record all money spent in your check register and subtract each entry from the balance.
