The National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association, located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas, has been dedicated to training and securing homes and businesses since 1948. Through face-to-face and online training, those interested in alarm installation have the opportunity to earn a variety of alarm installation certifications. The Certified Alarm Technician Certification-Level 1 involves a 3-day training course culminating with a two-hour multiple choice exam. The Certified Fire Alarm Technician training involves a two-day Fire Alarm Installation Methods course and a one-day Life Safety Code course, culminating in a two-hour multiple choice exam on Fire Installation Methods and a one-hour multiple choice exam in Life Safety Codes. The school also offers and Advanced Alarm Technician course.
Elite Continuing Education University offers a variety of online certification courses to prepare students to install home alarm systems. Some of the more popular courses offered are burglar alarm installation, structured cabling, false alarm prevention, wiring methods and monitoring. Installers will increase their value in the home alarm installation industry and improve their low voltage knowledge. All courses focus on best practices, regulatory issues and common applications. Students will increase their marketability by being more knowledgeable about the alarm installation industry.
The Electrical Training Center of Long Island, located in New York, is committed to training and certifying students in all aspects of the electrical installation industry. The school offers a 48-hour security and fire alarm practical course which involves codes, fundamental electricity, wiring standards, installation, fire fundamentals, permits and maintenance. Graduates of the course receive a certification upon completion of the course. The Electrical Training Center also offers an 81-hour security and fire alarm course in preparation for students to sit for the New York State Licensing Exam for Security and Fire Alarm Installers.
The National Alarm Association of America offers self-paced courses which prepare students for the Security and Fire Alarm Installers Examinations within their state of residence. Students receive preparation materials which include the history of alarms, basic electrical theory and meters, basic and advanced protective circuits, control panels and keypads, input devices, output devices, wireless alarm systems and tools. The 32-lesson self-paced course was first introduced in 1984 and has educated many alarm installers throughout the United States since that time. The course is considered to be one of the best entry-level training programs in alarm installation and includes a comprehensive manual and DVDs which thoroughly prepare the student to work in the alarm installation industry.
