The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is a fine arts institution within Baltimore; it houses several degree programs in a various array of art disciplines. Goucher College Fine Arts is located in the suburbs of Baltimore County. The college offers degree level courses in art, picture, printmaking and sculpture/carving. The college has an award-winning gallery in the center of the campus, which displays contemporary art pieces. The James E. Lewis Museum of Art is a short walk from the art gallery; it is one of the top university art museums on the East Coast, according to the Goucher College website. Amenities include 18 classrooms, a lecture hall, a computer graphics and design lab. Additionally, the Ceramics and Carving Department within the college has its own building.
Morgan State University is a historically black college and a part of University of Maryland's college system. Morgan State is a small-scale campus situated further out from the center of Baltimore. The university allows students the ability to study, analyze, examine art works and collaborate with amateur as well as professionals in the pursuit of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting, printmaking, sculpture and even computer art design. In addition, Morgan State has Bachelor of Arts degrees in computer animation, sculpturing and sketch design available for those wanting to merge various subject fields of study.
Baltimore Clayworks is a community supported non-profit arts organization that is devoted to the ceramic arts. Clayworks has two separate buildings where students attend classes. One building is a state-of-the-art studio complex that offers ceramic classes for community children and adults. It's home to several local resident artists who create award-winning artwork on site. The second building has several art galleries dedicated to the exhibition of local, national as well as international ceramic works.
Students wishing to pursue art studies can enroll at Baltimore City Community College, Coppin State University, Towson University and University of Maryland Baltimore College (UMBC). The enrollment fees range from $1,500 per semester to under $300 for a few days of classes, as of February 2011. The disparity in cost depends on the type of class offered as well as residence within Maryland.
