Founded by Evanston, Illinois, Police Commander Franklin Kreml in 1936, the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety curriculum offers a crash investigation division with courses available both on campus and online. The course series includes everything from basic crash investigation to advanced traffic crash reconstruction. The Center is affiliated with Northwestern University, and graduates earn college credits toward the Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies as well as a certificate of completion.
Michigan State University, or MSU, located in Okemos, Michigan, offers 24 accident investigation programs, 1- to 6-day courses and seminars on a variety of topics, including night visibility, advanced traffic accident reconstruction and automobile event data recorder interpretation. Courses and seminars are scheduled at Michigan area locations, not generally on the MSU campus. Courses are frequently added at new locations when enrollment warrants it. The MSU seminars are training programs and are not associated with any MSU-offered degree.
Collision Forensic Solutions, LLC, is a company that provides on-site intermediate crash investigation courses, advanced crash investigation courses, crash reconstruction courses and software training. Instructors are law enforcement professionals who come to your facility, anywhere in the United States. Law enforcement agencies, attorneys and insurance companies can arrange for their own employee training on-site with a minimum of 10 participants. Individual courses run from 40 to 80 hours.
The Public Agency Training Council offers more than 100 law enforcement training programs around the country, including a 3-day at-scene traffic accident seminar. Courses are offered on specific dates at facilities across the United States, or instructors will come to your site with an enrollment of 15 to 50 participants. The at-scene traffic accident seminar covers accident investigation, techniques and procedures, including the analysis of evidence in and to the vehicle, tire skid marks and damage to stationary objects.
