Life Space Crisis Intervention Certification Training

Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) is a program sponsored by the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute based in Hagerstown, Maryland. The program's goal is to develop strategies to aid youth and adolescents with self-defeating tendencies. The United States has recognized the program to be effective in conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
  1. Course Description

    • The LSCI certification course is a five-day program that covers documentation on working with troubled children -- victims and aggressors. Observation of student situations via video and simulations are the second part of the program. Finally, the professionals will take part in a role-play scenario to practice and develop what they have learned in the cognitive sector of the course. Peer and professional trainer review and feedback is offered during phase three. Shorter courses are available through the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute for those looking to refresh their memories to gain a basic perspective of how to handle child interventions.

    Intended Registrants

    • Professionals working directly with troubled youth such as school teachers, administrators and guidance counselors can benefit from the course. Employees in the juvenile justice system, including youth counselors and youth probation officers, will also benefit from the certification course. Although crisis intervention skills may have been learned by professionals during their education, psychologists and therapists believe the coursework to be valuable. Those working in a team setting within their chosen field may recognize the usefulness of attending the program together.

    Benefits of the Certification Course

    • Not only is a certification awarded for successful course completion by the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute, various professions are awarded requirement credits. Teachers employed in states that require Act 48 hours receive 35 credit hours upon completion. The National Board for Certified Counselors and the National Association of Social Workers can receive a total of 30 continued education credit hours.

    Evaluations

    • According to research provided by the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute, success has been reported within school districts whose teachers and counselors have completed the program successfully. Students became more involved with classroom assignments, school attendance increased and student self-esteem improved.
