How to Calculate the EMU Rate

EMU stands for European Monetary Union. Established in 1999, it is the agreement between 11 of the 15 European Union member states to adopt a single monetary system and hard currency. Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain all agreed to use the Euro. Together, they make up the second-largest economy in the world.

      Currency rates constantly fluctuate. Never assume the numbers are the same from day to day. Always check for current rates either online or at your bank.

      Calculate Rates. On March 2, 2011, the exchange rate was 0.7043 € for $1.00 or 1 € = $1.4198. Take the amount you wish to convert and multiply it by the currency you are trying to find.

      View Example 1. 300 € to dollar -- 300 * 1.4198 -- 300 € = $425.94
