This game will let a child play detective, while still learning the scriptures. Create a secret code using numbers or symbols to represent each letter of the alphabet. Below the code, write dashes to correspond with each letter in the verse you wish the child to memorize, with the code for that letter written underneath the dash. Give the child the paper and have him use the code you created to decode the message. The child will have fun decoding the verse, and the extra work involved will help commit it to memory.
This game can be played in a Sunday school setting or individually. Take a set of note cards and write one word of a verse on each card. Shuffle the cards and give them to the child. In a classroom setting, the children can compete to see who can arrange the letters into the correct verse first. Individually, you can use a timer to let her try to beat her best time.
This is a classroom game designed to review verses that have already been learned. The class should stand in a circle. The teacher will say the reference for that particular scripture. The next person in the circle will say the next word in the verse. When a child misses a word or does not know it, he sits down. When the verse is completed, the child after the last word says "Sparkle" and sits down. This continues with different verses until only one child is left standing.
This game can also be played in a class or individual setting. First, write the entire verse, either on a board or a piece of paper. It must be written where each participating student can see it. After the class reads it aloud once, cover a word with a sticky note. Have them read the verse again, still including the missing word. Cover additional words until the whole verse is hidden, and the children are still able to recite it.
