Instructions

    • 1
Colored index cards make the game more exciting.

Separate the packs of cards by colors. Designate a color for each of the following card sets: answer board, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

    • 2

Write each addition fact currently being drilled on the color chosen for addition. Choose no more than 25 facts per set. Print the corresponding answers on the answer board set. Keep these together in an envelope to avoid sorting later.

    • 3

Randomly set out answer board cards on a table or the ground. Place them in five rows of five cards each. Leave enough space below each card to place another card.

    • 4
The child learns and plays at the same time.

Explain the rules: Student holds question cards in his hand face down. On moderator's cue, student flips over a question card, determines the answer, and places question card just below answer board card. Student repeats this with the other cards, one at a time. The timer will begin as moderator says "Go" and stops as last card is placed. Mark down student's best time.

    • 5
      Race against the clock.

Student races against her own time or challenges family member or friend to match her best time.

    • 6

Repeat Steps 2 to 5 for every set of math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
