How to Get a Firearm Owner ID Card

The firearm owner ID card is required for anyone who wants to possess or buy firearms. The card ensures that residents who qualify to posses firearms are identified for the safety of those in the community. Filling for a firearms owner identity card is completed through the state police department under strict background checks. In most states, anyone over the age of 18 is eligible to apply as long as they have no criminal record. In other states, consent is required for anyone under 21. Most states do not require you to have a firearm owner ID. The few states that require a form of firearm ID include: Hawaii, Illinois, Connecticut, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, and New York.
