Obtain a job as a full-time officer with a local or state law enforcement agency located in Oklahoma. This is important because only full-time officers are eligible for CLEET certification.
Clear the Oklahoma Peace Officer Selection Test (OPOST) with a score of 70 percent or higher. This test covers reading, writing, grammar, incident reporting and arithmetic skills. You have to clear this test within three months of your appointment as a full-time officer.
Take the physical assessment test that CLEET conducts and clear with a score of 70 percent or higher. This test includes physically challenging activities such as the stomach crawl, bear crawl, obstacle dodge, weight dragging, running and diagonal shuffle.
Fill out the application form to apply for certification. Provide necessary information regarding your medical and fitness status and attach your OPOST score along with your high school diploma or GED certificate. Attach other documents prescribed by CLEET. These include fingerprint clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, original affidavit from an approved psychologist attesting to your suitability to be employed as a peace officer, and proof of your employment with a law enforcement agency. Submit the completed application to CLEET.
Train at the State of Oklahoma Law Enforcement Training Center which conducts classes in the theoretical and practical aspects of law enforcement. This intensive program includes courses on criminal investigation, traffic laws, firearms, operation of emergency vehicles, domestic violence and sexual assault, first aid, human relations and ethics. Clear the written exams to receive certification.
