How to Write a Math Report Paper

Math report papers argue a mathematical position and/or prove a mathematical theorem. The report should follow the guidelines that apply to most papers with sections such as an introduction, analysis, results, findings and conclusion. For math papers, the results or findings section will include the applicable math equations, mathematical proof or whatever is required to present and argue the math case.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the introduction. Outline what you are writing about. Clearly explain the objective of your math analysis and what you plan to prove in your analysis. Be sure to describe the goal and what you will present. From the introduction, the reader should have a well-rounded view as to who you are, why you are presenting the paper and why he should continue reading.

    • 2

Provide your analysis. This section outlines the detailed results of your finding or math analysis. You will include mathematical equations, proofs or whatever is necessary to argue the primary case of your math paper. In other words, prove the claims or statements you make in the introduction.

    • 3

Write the results and discussion section. Start by summarizing the results of your analysis, emphasizing key points. Next, summarize your interpretation of the results, covering what you expected and what you didn't expect. In other words, discuss the results of your analysis. Be sure to cover any outstanding questions and concerns you know exist in the professional or educational community you support.

    • 4

Write your conclusion. Here you notate whether or not your results met the objectives and goals you established in your introduction. Back up your statements by pointing to key points you made in the analysis and results sections. Also, if applicable, lead or direct the reader to any follow-on analysis or action.

    • 5

Add a reference section. State and number each reference. Make sure you go back and cite each reference in the body of your paper.

    • 6

Add an appendix. This section should include data such as graphs, complex reference equations or any supporting or reference information that do not have to be in the body of the paper. Be sure to reference the appendix in the body of your text when applicable.
