Plaster Cutting Tools

Plaster is a common product used in construction industry for building walls, ceilings and creating decorative finishes. It is a mixture of two minerals: sulfur and calcium. You mix water with powder to create thick, malleable paste when using plaster to construct. A dried-up plaster paste is difficult to cut without using tools and needs specific plaster-cutting tools to cut and shape the dry plaster.
  1. Razor Blade

    • Builders use razor blades sometimes to cut through semi-dry plaster precisely. Razor blades are effective to cut plaster within a short period after applying plaster on the walls. They also provide a score line along which the plaster can be broken, or separated. Builders and designers use razor blades because of their convenience and effectiveness when cutting.

    Spiral-Cutting Tools

    • Spiral-cutting tools cut plaster without rattling or making the rest of the plaster loose. Masons use it when trying to cut through plaster walls, because it minimizes interference of the plaster's integrity. When using the spiral cutter, bring the rotating blade to full speed before cutting plaster. Otherwise, it may dull off within a short period of its use.

    Saber Saw

    • Saber saws are hand-held electrical saws that cut a thick piece of plaster material. When working with the saber saw use fine-tooth blade to cut plasters. The plaster's propensity causes it to chip and crack when being sewed if you don't use a fine tooth blade. If you don't press the saber saw hard against the wall, vibrations make the plaster to crumble and may create fractures on the plaster.

    Trimming tools

    • Rasps are tools with two differently shaped ends, one rounded and the other one pointed with a thin middle handle. At each end of the rasps is a series of holes which shave plaster from a sculpture. The holes cut sculpture as a cheese grater does. Another trimming tool is the leaf ornamental device. This trimming tool uses a piece of looped wire at the end of one of its handles for cutting material from a form of plaster. Looped wire in the trimming tools is available in different forms, shapes and sizes.
