Note the condition of the goods brought into your storage facility. Ensure that the goods are in their proper condition when they are delivered to your facility. You are accountable for any damaged goods during the storage period.
Install a security system within the facility. Avail the access code to the employees only. Regularly change the codes and update your system. Hire a security company to secure the safety of the premises. Install security cameras to make monitoring of the premises less tedious.
Create a customer database for easy management of customer information such as payment schedule and goods stored by the customer. Ensure the customers provide the necessary information such as contact information upon delivery of goods. Use this information to remind customers who are behind on their rent to pay the necessary fees.
Group goods of the same nature together to enhance storage stability of the various commodities. Separate chemicals according to their degree of reactivity to avoid hazardous reactions.
Record the serial numbers of goods upon arrival for accountability and tracking purposes. Make duplicate copies, in soft and hard copy, to ensure efficiency within the system and for backup in case of system malfunction respectively.
Put in place sufficient safety measures. Confirm that fire extinguishers are well distributed within the facility. Have enough fire exits within the building. Properly train the stuff on fire safety and other work safety measures. Place first aid kits in every section of the facility. Avoid water-based fire extinguishers when storing chemicals that are reactive with water.
Monitor the financial records of the storage facility. Check that all records are in order and the business is making profits.
