Visit the website of the college or university to which you plan to apply. This site will provide important information on what you need to do to apply. Find out what information is required for you to apply; you may need college transcripts, possible test scores --- such as the SAT, GRE or GMAT --- high school transcripts, letters of recommendation and a current resume.
Obtain all necessary transcripts. If you live near the college or high school from which you need to obtain transcripts, stop by the registrar's office to obtain copies of your transcripts. If you live a distance, write a letter to the school requesting your transcripts. If applicable, include a check for any fees your school charges to obtain transcripts.
Keep the transcripts you receive sealed. For schools requesting official transcripts, transcripts are no longer official if you open the envelop your transcripts are in.
Obtain letters of recommendation. Ask professors or a current boss to write a letter of recommendation explaining why you would be an asset to the program to which you are applying.
Update your resume. If applicable, submit an updated cover letter and resume with your application.
Fill out the college application on paper or online.
Send the application fee to the college. Many colleges will not process your application until the application fee has been received.
