Determine how large of an ETL development team your company requires. Consider how quickly you need an ETL system implemented. Discuss with your current information technology staff what programs provide information (such as point of sales, invoicing and human resource management systems) and with what database system (such as Oracle or MySQL) they must interface.
Recruit from your current IT staff for a project manager. Choose a staff member with proven experience using company software, knowledge of the database system and potential as a team leader.
Write detailed job listings. List the specific technologies and systems (such as Informatica, Oracle or Linux) that an applicant must be familiar with. Include education, certification and experience requirements.
Post the listing on your corporate web site as well as job search engines such as Thingamajob and Simplyhired.
Schedule interviews with promising applicants. Ask the team leader to participate in the interviews. Review the applicant's knowledge and qualifications relevant to the position, such as experience with the company's database system or input programs.
Consult the team leader for his impression of top interviewees. Discuss any reservations that you may have about each candidate. Decide which candidates to hire to fill the ETL team positions.
