Cut off two 1/2-inch segments from a larger piece of angle iron using a hacksaw. An angle iron is a bar of iron or steel with a cross-section shaped like the letter L. The two pieces must be uniform and of the same size. Use a tape measure to ascertain the lengths of the two members.
Cut off another section, 8 inches in length, from the same piece of angle iron. Use the tape measure to ensure the length is as planned. Use a file to remove the burred edges of the metal pieces you cut off. Deburring makes the work pieces smooth and prevent accidents such as cuts while handling the members.
Place the three metal pieces on magnetic angles such that two shorter pieces are joined together with the longer piece in a point-to-point manner. The two shorter members should be at each extreme end of the longer piece of angle iron. Make sure the angled edges of the three pieces are aligned together by gently moving them into position. Weld the pieces together at the point of contact.
Trim off the bottom part of two C-clamps, the faces opposite to the faces with the tightening screws, such that they look like inverted L shapes with the tightening screws still intact. Weld the now inverted L-shaped clumps onto the angle iron work piece. Make sure the screws on each clump are in position to reinforce anything placed in the V-shaped area formed by the two shorter angle irons. The Welding clump is now complete and should be able to hold work pieces as large as 3 inches in diameter.
