How to Make an Electric Spark

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines electricity as "a fundamental form of energy observable in positive and negative forms." Electricity is responsible for powering many of the things we use today: lighting, computers, cellphones, televisions, and even automobiles. While electrical energy can be dangerous at high levels, it is possible to create an electric spark safely in your own home. The process of making spark is easy and only requires a few simple household items.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a pair of cotton socks onto your feet.

    • 2

Shuffle your feet for 30 seconds while standing on floor carpet. This causes a static electric charge to build up in your body.

    • 3

Place your index finger a quarter-inch away from a metal doorknob. The static electric charge will then conduct from your finger to the metal doorknob in the form of a brief spark.
