Camp Ideas for Horse Girls

Horse camps are places for girls who enjoy riding horses to get away and share their passion with other girls. A horse camp for girls combines fun activities and instructional activities to engage and entertain girls of all ages. If you know a girl who is interested in learning how to ride horses or who has been doing it for some time, a horse camp is an ideal way for her to spend a week during the summer getting involved in something she can learn from and enjoy.
  1. Trail Rides

    • Trail riding is a typical activity at horse camps. One way to make this activity a little different is to turn it into a treasure hunt. Hide various items, such as treats for the horses or prizes for the girls such as horse gear, horse riding clothes or books about horses. Provide a map and let the girls go off on the trail in search of goodies.

    Horse Games

    • A horse camp is the ideal place for playing games with a horse theme. Girls can play plenty of standard games with a horse twist. Barrel racing, with the girls running relay races around barrels themselves instead of on a horse, is one idea. Lasso tag is another, with the girls taking turns trying to throw a lasso around each other. Horse trivia around the campfire at night is another game the girls can play. Other games to be played with horses, for girls who are more advanced, include Ride a Buck or Red Light, Green Light. In Ride a Buck, girls tuck dollar bills between their knees and the horse and try to ride without losing the bills. In Red Light, Green Light, the girls start at one end of the playing field and the camp counselor calls out either red light or green light. On green, girls cantor or gallop. On red, they must stop their horses. The first girl to the end of the playing field wins. A variation of this game can be played with girls on foot.

    Makeovers

    • Horses love being groomed. Have a horse makeover and let the girls brush their horses and dress them in the sparkly gear worn for horse shows. This is an opportunity for those girls who are familiar with doing this to teach new girls how to prepare for a show. Makeovers aren't just for the horses. Girls can dress one another up in rhinestone show gear as well.

    Horse Shows

    • Take a horse camp getaway as an opportunity to do private shows. Girls can take turns showing off their horse's tricks or demonstrate techniques for handling horses to new girls. This is the perfect chance to strut your horse's stuff and help prepare the girls for when they take their horses into a real show arena.
