How to Gain Wisdom

How to Gain Wisdom. Wisdom is generally thought of as keen insight that helps in navigating life. Believing in wisdom carries the assumption that there's a best way of doing things. There are many ways to gain wisdom and learn how to navigate the storms of life. Generally, wisdom is best gained from your own personal experience, but you can also learn by watching others and even through reading and meditation.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the source or sources of wisdom you find most consistent and trustworthy. To do so, ask those you consider wise how they've learned what they've learned, where they studied or how they changed their mindsets throughout their lives to gain wisdom.

    • 2

Realize that every situation you go through is an opportunity for change and for right thinking. Right thinking produces right action. Consistency in carrying out right action over time is the basis of wisdom.

    • 3

Create space to think about your actions both present and past. Ask yourself what these situations could have taught you, if you had let them. Notice any patterns you might be experiencing or if the same thing keeps happening to you. This is likely a lesson waiting for you to learn and gain wisdom from.

    • 4

Seek out higher wisdom continually. As you become more refined in asking yourself why you do the things you do, you may notice that a higher truth is guiding you into right thinking and right behavior.

    • 5

Keep a journal of your progress. The wisdom you possess lays a foundation for the revelations you have and developments you'll go through in your lifetime. Reflecting on your progress helps you to gain perspective and, therefore, more wisdom.
