Certified Property Management Training

Multimillion-dollar properties that feature an extensive staff and hundreds of occupied units require experienced management. Acquiring a certified property manager (CPM) designation provides further education into the subtle nuances involved in property management and qualifies an individual to manage high profile, high-volume properties.
  1. Identification

    • The Institute of Real Estate Management is qualified to designate people with the CPM title. Many CPM designating institutions require their applicants to make a pledge to uphold a certain code of ethics before receiving their CPM title upon completion of relevant coursework and experience.

    Types

    • All institutions qualified to designate individuals with the CPM title require applicants to complete some level of coursework for consideration. This coursework includes classes on marketing and leasing properties, human resources in real estate, real estate investing, financing and valuation of real estate. Applicants can complete training online or in person at classrooms across the country. Candidates with an undergraduate or graduate degree in property management qualify them to bypass required CPM coursework.

    Experience

    • CPM training institutions require prospective CPMs to have relevant experience. Usually, institutions will require that their applicants achieve around three years of experience in the property management field before they are eligible to receive a CPM designation.
