Find a lesson program. There are many resources for learning Latin online, including Learn Latin, Latin Virtual School, and even YouTube (See Resources). You can also download Latin lessons to your digital music player and take your lessons with you when you leave the house.
Choose the time of day for studying when you are least distracted. It's important to put time aside specifically for learning Latin if you are going to retain the information.
Get comfortable. Find a spot in your house or office where you will be comfortable sitting and reading for the next half-hour. When choosing a spot, be sure to situate yourself in a clean room with little distractions, such as television or noisy housemates. Atmosphere plays a part in comprehension. You don't want to begin your Latin lesson while staring at dust bunnies that need cleaning.
Start small. Learn jokes, short phrases, numbers, and days of the week. You may become overwhelmed if you start with paragraphs of the Aeneid to recite.
Speak aloud when you are practicing. This will give you a better feel of whether what you are saying matches up with what you are hearing in your lesson.
Do your study session in one half-hour, or several half-hour sessions scattered throughout the day. It's important not to overpower your mind with too much information at once.
Practice Latin words and phrases daily. As with any language, repetition and consistency will better help you grasp your subject.
