Israeli Counterterrorism Training

Given Israel's experience in dealing with Islamic terrorism, its courses in counter-terrorism are sought after by law enforcement and security experts. The training is typically provided by former members of Israel's secret service and special forces.
  1. Training Regimen

    • While versions of the training are taught in Israel and beyond its borders, participants are loath to give away course details. According to the Defense Review website, one version, conducted in Los Angeles, offered a five-day 50-hour schedule covering emergency extraction, tactical shooting, advanced tactical carbine and pistol training, improvised explosive device detection, engaging threats in crowded areas and several other counter-terrorism skills.

    Combat and Culture

    • Another counter-terrorism course held in Israel not only trains security experts in tactical combat but also provides a quick immersion in Arab culture, according to the Tampa Jewish Community Center and Federation. Course participants are exposed to Arab food and lifestyles, thus enabling them to better understand and navigate Mideast battle zones.

    Role-Playing

    • Israeli counter-terrorism training typically involves role-playing in situations that involve, for example, suicide bombers and convoy ambushes. While formal presentations familiarize course participants with terrorist attacks, practice in simulated environments helps hone tactical battle skills.
