Sketch out your RPG design on a piece of paper. Box in placeholders where your photo images will go. Write down names for each of the photo images you will use. For this example, use a photo of you studying math, a photo of you drinking a beer, a photo of you tutoring math and a photo of you sunning at the beach.
Determine what the reward and consequences will be for performing different actions. Plan the game so that clicking photo icons will result in an increase or decrease in the score. Set the code up so that the math grade will decrease each time the student selects the drink beer icon and increase each time the player clicks the math book for this example.
Decide on the text cues for actions the player takes. Use positive text cues when the player is behaving correctly and negative text cues when the player is behaving incorrectly. Use a cue such as "you're drinking to much beer and your math grade will suffer" if the user clicks the drinking beer photo too often.
Start Flash. Select "Import" from the "File" menu on Flash's main menu bar. Select "Import to Library" from the import menu. Select one of the photo files (jpeg or gif) you want to import from the dialog box that appears. Select the "Open" button in the dialog box.
Select "Properties" from the window menu to display Flash's property panel. Select "Library." Position your mouse over the icon of the graphic file you just imported from the library dialog box that appears. Press and hold your mouse button down and drag the icon to the Flash stage. Release the mouse button when the icon is at the position you want. Position your mouse over the "<instance name>" text box in the properties panel and type in a name for the icon you placed on the stage. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for each graphic image you want to import.
