Learn basic piano and accordion notes by purchasing a note chart and placing it just above the keyboard. A note chart will show you the names of each note, what the musical note looks like and which note applies to which key. Practice all the notes until you learn the name of each note that goes with a specific key on the keyboard.
Write each note on a label sticker and place the appropriate note on the corresponding piano or accordion key. Use the chart to guide you in placing the stickers on the keys. This will help you remember which key represents which note.
Learn basic piano and accordion chords with the help of a piano chords book. You can also use online piano courses that teach you the different chords (see Resources). The chords are the same on both the piano and the accordion. A chord is expressed by pressing three or more piano or accordion keys at the same time to get a particular sound. There are about 8,400 different chords but roughly 25 are used the most. So, if you learn the 25 most-used chords you can play many different musical pieces.
Play and practice basic scales on the piano or the accordion. A scale is made up of the eight notes that lie between a note and the same note an octave higher (eight keys higher). These are played in ascending and descending order. Reference the different scales with books or online classes. Practice the scales until your fingers become more dexterous. Practice the scales musically by varying your touch, sound, articulation and intensity. Experiment musically by communicating your emotions through the scale playing.
Hi -- Please help beginners grasp the basic differences between notes, chords and scales. Also, give a brief description of the difference between minor and major scales or eliminate the sentence. Thanks!
