How to Write a Footnote for a Magazine Article

When writing essays or informative journal pieces and articles, you are often required to cite your resources. Magazines get cited in their own proprietary way. In order to use an article and footnote it, you need to have the corresponding citation in the Bibliography. Most academic and business publications require the magazine article be cited in the same formal manner.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter in the footnote using a numeric indicator such as a post script number after the citation. Go to the bottom of the page and reduce the font size to make your footnote.

    • 2

Enter in the article title name in parentheses with a comma after the title, but within the parentheses. For example, "Theodore Roosevelt and His Bird Preservation Campaign," is the correct title entry.

    • 3

Enter the magazine name after the title, making sure to underline the magazine name.

    • 4

Type the day, month and year of the article and magazine if all is available. Often, it is only month and year. For example, 29 Oct. 2007.

    • 5

Enter a colon after the date and then enter the page numbers for the article in the magazine. For example (using the Step 4 date) 29 Oct. 2007: 42-44.
