The PC Talking Typing Tutor is designed to help people with disabilities learn how to type. (See Resource 1) You can learn how to type by following text and speech instructions. This is taught in 14 lessons by practicing words, sentences and letters. You receive feedback on your accuracy as well as speed. PC Talking Typing Tutor is a Windows-based program, and individual licenses can be purchased from the Rehab Technology Services website for $99 as of June 2011.
KAZ Home User Typing Tutor is a Windows-based program designed for people with dyslexia. (See Resource 2) Typing is taught by using five phrases while helping you learn the basics, increase typing speed and improve accuracy. You can take this program at your own pace and feedback is provided through modules and testing. KAZ Home User Typing Tutor can be purchased from Dyslexic.com for $28 as of June 2011.
Custom Typing Training offers an online typing tutor for all ability levels and ages, including those with special needs. Some of the features offered include, one-handed typing training, short and simple exercises and easy skill levels for slow typists. Compatibility with speech recognition, on-screen keyboards and non-standard keyboards is also offered. Custom Typing Training also provides extensive tools for those evaluating specialized software, hardware and alternative input systems. After an initial four week free trial, the programs costs $9 per month as of June 2011.
