Vocational Training for the Disabled

The federal government provides money to community organizations, schools and associations to create vocational training centers for the disabled. The goal of these centers is to help the disabled find meaningful employment.
  1. Training Programs

    • Vocational training for the disabled is designed to work with the abilities of the disabled to give them skills in fields in need of workers. Common training programs teach skills for fields including automotive service, custodial training, office work, food service, industrial and retail.

    Placement Services

    • Many community resources offering vocational training also offer placement services to match disabled students with post-graduation employment. Developing resumes, interview coaching, and job search skills are some common services.

    Supportive Employment

    • After training is completed and a job is located, vocational centers offer supportive employment to some former students. Workers from the center accompany the disabled person to the work site and offer on-the-job coaching.
