Students have to acquire a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university before applying. An enrollee's degree can be in any field to obtain a master's in PT.
Although the minimum GPA for a bachelor's degree is 2.0, prospective students must have the appropriate course work in biology and science with an average GPA of 3.0 in those classes.
The admission process consists of taking the Graduate Records Exam (GRE), providing letters of recommendation and a written essay and completing an interview with the admissions committee.
The majority of universities require students to take over 90 hours or coursework. Courses include research in PT, practicum, physical therapy management, physical diagnosis and medical lectures.
After the required coursework is completed, students will have to perform supervised clinical sessions at a licensed doctor's office or hospital.
Students will either apply a thesis or take a comprehensive exam to graduate with a master's degree in physical therapy. Both projects focus on the material learned over the course of the program.
