You must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent to be admitted into nursing school programs, for all types of nursing degrees. Follow the same practice you would for getting into any college and take nursing related classes such as biology while keeping your grade point average up.
You can get an associate's degree in nursing, as well as a bachelor's or masters degree in nursing depending on what type of work you want to do. All three degrees will qualify you to take the necessary exam. Two-year associate's degree in nursing may limit your employment opportunities but can help you get into a four-year program.
After completing your nursing degree, you will be eligible to take the National Council License Exam (NCLEX-RN). Nurses must be licensed to practice, but each state has its own laws about when your license must be renewed.
