Memorize what will be tested at each level of the exam. The COMLEX exam has three distinct phases. Level One tests basic science and concepts. Level Two focuses on medical decision making skills and clinical concepts. Level Three covers specific medical subjects such as emergency medical care, pediatrics and surgery.
Purchase a COMLEX study guide. Examples include "COMLEX Secrets," published by Mometrix Media, and "COMLEX Review" by Modi and Shah (see Resources section). These books provide inside information and practice questions.
Work as many practice problems and practice exams as you can. The study guides listed above provide some of this material. Additional material can be found in libraries and online. A practice exam is included on the NBOME website as well (see Resources section).
Speak with doctors and other medical professionals who have taken this exam. Ask them what they did to prepare and listen earnestly to their advice.
Stick to a study schedule. Treat this exam as another job and schedule study times.
