Founded in 1946 to help educate WWII veterans, today UNC boasts a "U.S. News & World Report" ranking as one of the nation's top ten up and coming universities. UNC comprises four campuses, three of which are located in Charlotte; UNC Charlotte offers approximately 90 undergraduate programs and more than 70 graduate programs that range from architecture and biomedical engineering to computing, engineering, health administration, history, teacher education, creative writing, business, nursing and social work. In addition, UNC Charlotte features various distance learning programs, some of which may be completed entirely online. The Art Institute of Charlotte offers Bachelor's and Associate degrees in addition to academic certificates in the fields of design, media arts, fashion and culinary arts. Founded in 1973, this Charlotte-based school is one of more than 45 North American educational institutions that share the A.I. moniker. Bachelor's programs include culinary arts management, digital film making & video production, fashion marketing and management, graphic design, interior design, photography, web design and interactive media. Students may begin their studies at the Art Institute of Charlotte in July, October, January or April with mid-quarter commencement options in August, November, February and May.
