Electrical Trade Schools Near Tampa

  1. Tampa Area Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee

    • A partnership between the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association, the Tampa Area Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, or JATC, offers apprenticeship training for budding electricians. Combining work experience with classroom knowledge, apprentice electricians will gain the skills and education to becoming a recognized journeyman. Tampa Area JATC begins new classes in January, April and September. The application process includes a written application, a comprehensive aptitude test and an interview. Rigorous standards, 8,000 hours of work experience and 1,000 classroom hours, are required to qualify for journeyman status. All apprentices are paid for their work. Tampa Area JATC also offers continuing education for journeyman electricians.

    Erwin Technical Center

    • Operated by Hillsborough County Schools, Erwin Technical Center has five campuses in the Tampa Bay area. Its electrical training program is a 13-month, 1,200-hour course covering the fundamentals to assist in gaining employment as an apprentice electrician. An intensive hands-on approach and classroom work in residential and industrial electricity provides the background for an electrical career. Programs begin every nine weeks. Admission requires a written application and passing a basic skills test.

    Ridge Career Center

    • Providing comprehensive electrical training for adults and high school students, Ridge Career Center leads students to a certificate of completion and access to employment as an apprentice electrician. Operated by the Polk County school system, Ridge Career Center has been providing vocational and technical training to Polk County Residents since 1972. Its electrical training program can be taken during the day and evening hours. Admission consist of an application, skills test and interview with a student counselor.
