Schools for Theater Make Up Artistry

Across the United States, approximately 9,000 performing arts companies earn an average revenue of around $14 billion per year, according to the First Research industry profiling organization. Of these companies, 3,000 are theaters, employing trained workers who ensure performers look their parts by creating and applying intricate makeup designs. To achieve a position as a theatrical makeup artist may require specialized training and experience; students may enroll in theater makeup courses as short as a few weeks lasting up through a year's time.

Other options include a course in special effects, such as making molds, life casting, sculpting techniques, and application of prosthetics. While enrolled, students may take advantage of EI's library of makeup collections, career assistance, and help finding nearby housing. Financial aid is available through loans, grants, and work study.
