In order to increase your spelling and reading skills, you must learn a few tricks. Not everyone has perfect reading and spelling skills, but you can learn and develop them.

Read everything you can. There is no substitute for reading books to help you improve your reading skills. The more you read, the faster and more accurate you will become. Each time you read something, though, you must make sure that you are actually comprehending the text and not just reading the words. Reading aloud is especially helpful because you can hear yourself and the pace at which you are reading.

Create a misspelled words list. Write a list of all the words that you know you have a problem spelling. Keep the list in your purse or wallet for future reference. In no time, you'll be able to spell the words correctly without even looking at your list.

Use the Google, Yahoo or Bing suggest tools to check your spelling. If you don't know how to spell a word, there is little chance that you will be able to look it up in the dictionary. Instead, type the word into the search bar as you think it might be spelled. Chances are, the words "did you mean" or "results are included for" followed by the correctly spelled word will appear after you hit enter. From there, you can go ahead and use that spelling to look up the word in the dictionary and make sure it is correct.

Do the crossword puzzle every day. Crossword puzzles not only help you to read more carefully by examining the clues, they help you to learn new words and how to spell them. This is a great way to practice your skills while having fun at the same time.
