Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) is a six-hour course that orients the instructor candidates to Red Cross history and policies. The fee for FIT is $50. The First Aid, CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) course is 32 hours and costs $275. First Aid, CPR and AED teaches Adult and Child CPR/AED, infant CPR and First Aid. At the end of the course, successful candidates become certified to teach these courses.

    • As of 2010, UMBC offers the Core Instructor Course, which provides a foundation for teaching and facilitating regardless of an instructor candidate's specialization field. The Discipline Specific Module course uses instructor-led and video-based lessons. Candidates will learn the resuscitation team concept, stressing the process of responding to resuscitation as part of a team. The fee for both courses is $200, or $150 for the Discipline Specific Module if the candidate has already taken the Core Instructor Course.
