Boots on the Roof holds a six-day solar training photovoltaic system boot camp in California and New Jersey. The program is designed for architects, electricians and contractors. Participants have a combination of classwork, hands-on lab work and computer software exercises. Topics covered include residential solar electric retrofits and loading panels to tie in with public utilities. During the course, each student has an Internet-connected personal computer at his desk. Upon graduation, participants are issued the Certified Solar PV Professional certification. The course is a total of 48 hours, including home study time. Students are provided with basic knowledge of solar photovoltaic cells, modules, and system components. Instruction is provided on industry safety standards and recommended safety procedures. Clean Tech students receive hands-on training, classroom instruction and home study assignments. After the course is completed, students may qualify for certification by taking the optional North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners exam.
