    • Castle Building and Remodeling offers home remodeling courses broken into topic modules. Subjects include kitchen, basement, bath and half-story projects. The school has accreditation from the Better Business Bureau and belongs to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Builders Association of the Twin Cities Remodelers and the National Kitchen and Bath Association. Castle Building and Remodeling has approval from Minnesota GreenStar for certified green homes and remodeling and teaches its programs based on green building practices and design.

    Owner Builder Center

    • The Owner Builder Center offers a two-day house building and remodeling class that takes place in weekend sessions at the Holiday Inn in Sacramento. Topics of the course include how-to instruction on site work, utilities installation, foundations, floor framing, sub-floors, wall framing, wall construction alternatives, roof framing, exterior trim, siding and windows, roofing, electricity, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC), carpentry, trims, cabinetry, ceramic tile, countertops and flooring. The course also familiarize students with topics related to local codes and permits and how to finance renovation and remodeling projects. Students learn how to avoid common pitfalls and how to save money, too. Out-of-town students can take advantage of a discounted group rate on hotel accommodations from the hotel.

    Penn Foster Career School

    • Penn Foster Career School offers a Home Remodeling and Repair correspondence course that results in a career diploma. Topics covered include home renovating, building materials, fastening tools, hand tools, safe scaffold use, reading construction drawings, site preparation, foundations, framing; floors, walls and stairs, cornices and roofing, windows, doors, siding, installing insulation and drywall, interior finishing, wiring, plumbing and heating, kitchens and bathrooms. The program includes remodeling techniques for the basement, bathroom and kitchen and a seven-part series on building an addition with a kitchen. Students entering the remodeling field will benefit from the final chapter on the business of home remodeling. Tuition includes textbooks and instructional DVDs.
