Certified General Accountant Schools

A certified general accountant is a designation given to accounting professionals who have passed the PACE certification exams administered by the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada. Candidates must complete an approved training program, have 36 months of full-time career experience with a minimum of 24 months in a senior accountant or financial manager capacity, and demonstrate thorough professional knowledge, leadership skills, business ethics and professional conduct. Certification is available internationally in Bermuda, the Caribbean, China, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Tecnológico de Monterrey.
  1. Ashton College

    • The diploma in accounting program at Ashton College is a 12-part curriculum that can be completed eight months with full-time attendance. Graduates of the course will satisfy the basic education requirements (levels one through three) of the CGA programs. Students must take the level four advanced studies and complete the PACE evaluation with British Columbia chapter of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada to earn the CGA designation.

    SAIT Polytechnic

    • SAIT Polytechnic and CGA-Canada partnered to create a degree program that results in the CGA certification and a bachelor's degree in applied business administration in accounting and information technology upon successful completion. After taking the prerequisite basic-level courses (levels one through three) offered by CGA-Canada, students may begin the course at SAIT, which can be taken on campus or in 100 percent distance-learning format. The eight segments of the curriculum take one year to complete. The project-based program does not have exams. The advanced studies course (level four) at CGA-Canada must be taken post-graduation before the PACE process begins.

    University of Alberta

    • The business school at the University of Alberta incorporates the CGA certification requirements into the school's master of business administration (MBA) degree program. Upon completion of the course, students must take two classes offered by CGA-Canada before qualifying to begin the PACE portion; Issues in Professional Practice and Strategic Financial Management. The program's flexible study options allow students to choose between on-campus and online learning. The MBA portion of the course can be completed in one year with full-time attendance. Post-graduate job search assistance is available.
