Certified Nursing Assistant Schools in Michigan

Certified nursing assistants, also known as CNAs or nurses' aides, perform many daily patient care tasks, including bathing, feeding, grooming, checking vital signs and assisting nurses with procedures and equipment. (See Reference 1). In Michigan, CNAs require training from an accredited institution and must pass a state exam.

    • Kellogg Community College, located in Battle Creek, Michigan, offers a nurses' assistant training program that is approved by the State of Michigan Department of Public Health. The program is 80.5 hours of classroom, clinical and lab instruction. The program focuses on long-term care and incorporates instruction on acute and home health care. (See Reference 2) To qualify for the nurses' assistant training program at KCC, students must have a high school diploma or GED and pass a background check. The cost of the state exam is included in the list of costs required for the program.

    Lansing Community College

    • Lansing Community College offers nursing aide and nurse assistant programs in acute and long-term care. The acute care nurse assistant program, also called a patient care technician, consists of 16 weeks of evening classes or 4.5 weeks of daytime classes. Acute care nursing assistant students are trained to work in hospital and clinical settings. The long-term care nurse aide program is a shorter program, consisting of 94 hours of state-certified courses that typically last about three weeks. The program includes classroom, clinical and lab work. Students are eligible to take the state exam upon completion of the long-term care program. Students must pass a background check to qualify for the nurses' aide programs. (See Reference 3)

    Montcalm Community College

    • The nurse assistant program at Montcalm Community College in Sidney, Michigan, is a Jobs Training Program. It includes classroom instruction, lab work and clinical experience. The program combines training in acute care, long-term care and home health care. Upon completion of the nurse assistant program, students can apply for the state competency exam or seek employment as a nurses' aide.
