Locksmith training programs introduce prospective locksmiths to high-security locks, automotive locksmithing, security alarms, emergency lock entries, combination locks, basic locks and keys, deadbolts, decoding and locksmithing tools. Some of the competencies students will gain include identification of locks, knowledge of safety and security, and an understanding of the fundamentals of keyways and master keying.
Locksmith training prepares individuals to work under little supervision. Some locksmiths work on an on-call basis and must be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Participants may venture out and own a locksmithing business following training. Locksmiths may choose to seek advanced training that includes Certified Registered Locksmith or Certified Professional SafeTech credentialing.
