How to Get Ready for the ASVAB

Your chances of passing the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB test, are significantly elevated when you take practice tests beforehand. It also helps to have an idea of what type of position you would be interested in pursuing after you enlist in the military. There are many practice tests available for free online, along with printed study guides.

      Navigate to military.com and select one of the military branches by double-clicking on it with your mouse. Scroll down the page that opens to view a complete listing of the various positions available and what scores you will need to receive on your ASVAB in order to qualify.

      Decide which positions you would prefer and begin studying. Devote the majority of your study to the subjects stressed for the position you want.

      Obtain printed study materials. Read, study and review the information presented in the study materials.

      Complete practice tests online and in your study materials.

      Evaluate your scores and determine which areas require improvement based on the requirements of your desired positions. Focus your study in these areas.

      Locate and contact a local military recruiter for the specific branch you are interested in. Make an appointment to take your ASVAB test.
