Cosmetology Schools in the Cleveland Area

Cleveland is home to a number of cosmetology schools. Also known as beauty schools, these academies and institutes prepare students for careers in the beauty industry. Cosmetology schools in the Cleveland area include independent institutions native to Ohio as well as branches of large national networks of beauty and cosmetology academies. Most of these schools are not in the city of Cleveland but in smaller towns and cities in the greater metro area.

    • Cosmetology schools in the Cleveland area include Inner State Beauty School, Grace College of Cosmetology and Raphael's School of Beauty Culture. The Raphael School has five campuses in Ohio, two of which are in the Cleveland area. The Ohio Academy of Twinsburg, Ohio, is a partner school of the national Paul Mitchell Beauty and Cosmetology School network. Other national cosmetology schools with campuses in the Cleveland area include the Brown Aveda Institute and the Regency Beauty Institute.

    • Educational programs available at cosmetology schools in the Cleveland area include hair, skin, nails, waxing, manicures, pedicures, makeup and facials. Grace College of Cosmetology has classes in hair and scalp care, perm waving and chemical hair relaxing, hair coloring and lightening, and lectures covering subjects such as sanitation, sterilization, bacteriology, cosmetic chemistry physiology and anatomy of hair, skin, nails and muscles. Brown Aveda Institute has programs in cosmetology, esthetics (skin care) and combined programs with management training. Raphael's offers courses in massage therapy and training for future teachers of cosmetology.

    • Regency Beauty Institute's Cleveland Campus is in Willoughby, Ohio, northeast of downtown Cleveland. Inner State Beauty School is in Lyndhurst, east of downtown Cleveland. The Ohio Academy Paul Mitchell partner school is also in Lyndhurst. Raphael's School of Beauty Culture has campuses in North Olmsted, west Cleveland and Brunswick, southwest of Cleveland. Grace College of Cosmetology is in Middleburg Heights, between Brunswick and North Olmsted, and the Brown Aveda Institute is in Mentor, just outside of Willoughby, northeast of Cleveland.

    Career Preperation and Services

    • Inner State Beauty School licenses graduates with the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology so that they can begin practicing cosmetology immediately. Regency Beauty Institute offers students a career placement service. Through this service, graduates of the school are placed in jobs at one the salons participating in the SalonPartners program. Grace College of Cosmetology says it prepares students for many careers, including salon or spa owner and manager, beauty product manufacturer's representative, and makeup, hair, scalp, nail or skin care specialist.
