The course is recommended for people who are already health professionals, such as nurses, medical assistants and spa assistants, who wish to broaden their knowledge of alternative medicines.
Anthem College in New York offers a diploma in healthcare information management as well as medical billing and coding. The healthcare information management course equips students to handle medical records electronically, overseas insurance claims and other relevant technologies; by the end of the course students will have the skills required to work in insurance offices, hospitals and related government agencies. The medical billing and coding diploma covers medical record-keeping, data inputting and billing procedures and is considered an entry-level course.
The Pittsburgh Technical Institute offers a 15-month certificate in therapeutic massage, which covers deep tissue techniques, aromatherapy and sports massage. The course also includes a three-month placement and can be completed full- or part-time. Practical nursing certificates are also available, covering nutrition, pharmacology and geriatric nursing. The only requirements for admission into both these courses is a general interest in the subject and a high school diploma.
