How to Train for Electrical Safety

While electricity is a familiar part of modern living, it remains a dangerous force of nature and basic safety procedures for dealing with it are essential for personal survival. While we all are taught in childhood not to stick pins in electrical outlets or go outdoors in thunderstorms, more advanced electrical safety training is necessary in many jobs and professions and is readily obtainable.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult federal government agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for their electrical safety standards and policies. OSHA can also refer you to other federal agencies, such as the Department of Health and Human Services, for additional information. OSHA also offers its own online training courses.

    • 2

Investigate electrical safety training through state and private university extension courses, community colleges and high schools that offer continuing education for adults.

    • 3

Contact national non-profit organizations such as the National Safety Council and professional organizations such as the Construction Safety Council for information on electrical safety training courses.

    • 4

Apply to private vocational schools and training companies for information on their courses in electrical safety. Charges for these programs may be high, but some schools offer financial assistance to students.
