1. Get approval from your school certifying official (SCO). Before you transfer schools, you must get approval from your current SCO. They will need to verify that you are still eligible for the GI Bill and that the school you are transferring to is approved for VA education benefits.
2. Submit your VA Form 22-1995. Once you have approval from your SCO, you must submit a VA Form 22-1995 to the VA. This form is used to request a change of institution.
3. Wait for the VA to approve your transfer. The VA will review your request and approve it if you meet all the eligibility requirements. Once your transfer is approved, the VA will send you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for your new school.
4. Enroll in your new school. Once you have your COE, you can enroll in your new school. Be sure to provide your new school with a copy of your COE so that they can process your VA education benefits.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind when transferring schools with the GI Bill:
* You must transfer to a school that is approved for VA education benefits.
* You must be enrolled in at least half-time to receive full GI Bill benefits.
* You may need to pay tuition and fees out of pocket until your GI Bill benefits are processed.
* You must maintain satisfactory academic progress to continue receiving GI Bill benefits.
