Create a a vision statement for your collaborative student success program. Identify what you hope to accomplish with this program and how you will meet those goals. Do not go into the application process without a clear vision of how this program will look. Write down all your ideas, you will need them in subsequent steps, and think of why this program is a necessary addition to your college campus.
Formulate a preliminary organization. Write down how the program will be organized and run. Determine who will be in charge, what kind of and how many officer positions there will be, your ideal number of members, how often meetings will be held and what will be covered in the meetings. The more you have written down and outlined in advance, the stronger your application will be.
Garner support for your potential organization. Find potential members among friends and fellow students. Make flyers and distribute them around public areas around campus, such as any bulletin boards available. Go to the dorms and cafeteria and gauge interest for your ideas. For any students that say they would be interested in joining, get their name and contact information.
Write a club constitution. Most colleges will require a constitution or set of rules in order to become a legitimate student organization. The student government or office of student affairs will most likely provide a template on which you can provide the basics of your organization.
Apply to be a recognized club or organization. Request an application from the student government or office of student affairs. You will be required to fill out an application form, turn in your club constitution and undergo an interview. Until you are approved, you will not be able to receive funding from the college or hold meetings on campus space.
Hold your first meeting once approved. You are now a recognized student organization and free to operate on campus. At your first meeting, go over the logistics of the program with new members, elect officers, go over the vision statement and create a plan for the rest of the school year.
