Use bed lifts. Purchase bed lifts to give you more room under your bed for more storage. Put them under the base of each of the four posts of your bed. They fit most dorm room bed frame posts and can typically be found at inexpensive home decor stores like Bed Bath & Beyond. Bed lifts are most efficient when used with a single bed (no bunk beds) and can be used with a bed frame.
Use under-the-bed boxes. With the extra space that you have under the bed now, you don’t just want to use it to toss your shoes or backpack. Instead, use flat under-the-bed boxes to store clothes that you’re not wearing for the season or items that won’t fit in your closet. Organize the boxes so that items you need the most or soonest are at the top, while items that you need the least at the bottom.
Purchase door organizers. Door organizers hang on the back of your door or closet and can store shoes, accessories or other small items. This is a major space saver and is a neat and easy way to store your things. This also ensures that your items are easily accessible.
Use organizers that hang vertically in your closet. These organizers function like little cubbies, They work great for shoes or folded items that will not fit into drawers. Plus, they come in cool colors that you can coordinate with your dorm room.
Save space on your desk with desk organizers. Use pencil holders, folder crates, tins and buckets to house loose desk items. Use as many as you need to unclutter your desk and make it as easy as possible to find the items that you need when you need them. Use a system that works for you and tweak it as you find what works best.
Maximize all drawer and closet space. If you have an empty drawer, don’t hesitate to put miscellaneous loose items in there. This may become your junk drawer, but at least you don’t have random things just swimming around your dorm room.
Stay organized. By keeping your dorm room organized, you alleviate the need to wrestle through boxes and drawers to get the one thing you need. Also, staying organized can increase the amount of time you have to do other things like homework and studying, without worrying about the mess in your dorm room.
