How to Help Freshmen Move in on Campus

If you are a friend or family member of a first-year college student, or you are a student volunteering to assist your peers, you have an important job in helping him move into his new pad. Typically college freshman live in residence halls or dorms. These living quarters are often flooded with movers at the same time, and your help can determine whether or not moving day is a success.

Instructions

    • 1

Figure out where the student's room is. Determine which elevator or how many flights of stairs you have to tackle.

    • 2

Find a push cart. You can usually borrow one from the residence hall, which is probably located on the main floor near the office.

    • 3

Load as much as possible onto the push cart without causing overflow. Move the larger items into the room first, such as the bed and other furniture that other items must be placed around.

    • 4

Unload the large items and set up the bed, loft, desk or other pieces of furniture.

    • 5

Arrange the furniture until satisfied with it, then use the push cart to bring smaller items to the room.
