How to Cheer at a Notre Dame Football Game

If you're headed to a Notre Dame football game for the first time, it's important that you know how to cheer your team to victory. Follow these steps to make sure you're prepared to make noise and celebrate the Irish.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy tickets for seats in the Notre Dame section of the stadium. If you end up seated in the opposing team's section, the fans there might try to intimidate you.

    • 2

Make as much noise as you can when the team playing against Notre Dame has possession of the football. Cup your hands around your mouth and shout "Ohhhh" as loudly as you can. This is the traditional cheer against the opposition for Notre Dame fans. You are trying to break the players' concentration.

    • 3

Increase the volume of your yelling and open the cup you made with your hands once the quarterback moves behind the center. You'll know your distraction technique is working if the opposing team's quarterback looks at his receivers or starts pointing around the field.

    • 4

Follow the Notre Dame students' cheers if you sit in their section. Simply watch and listen to them and mimic what they are doing.

    • 5

Point upward with your right hand's index finger and move it in a circular direction just before Notre Dame is about to kick off. Begin yelling "Ohhhh," but in a slightly softer voice than when the opposing team possessed the football. Increase the volume of your yelling as the kicker approaches the ball. Once he kicks it, shout "Irish!" as loudly as you can.

    • 6

Remain as silent as possible while Notre Dame has the ball. If you make a lot of noise, you will end up getting harassed by those sitting around you.

    • 7

Clap hands with the Notre Dame fans around you once your team scores. When the fight song begins to play, clap and cheer along with it.
