Date your letter and introduce yourself. Treat your audience as complete strangers. Begin with your name and explain that you are writing to express an interest in attending this certain institution in order to participate in the football program. Make clear which on-field position you wish to play.
Sell yourself. Why are you a good fit for the program. What have you done to prepare yourself so that you are an asset to the program that the coaching staff would love to have around? Point out these attributes and achievements now. You should include a short summary of your stats up to this point. Don't belabor the point; your numbers will speak for themselves.
Briefly describe your life away from football. Discuss your family and how important they are to you. Highlight any academic accolades. Submit positive examples that show that you have a strong sense of character and steady moral compass. Include any community service or mentoring experiences, for example. If you can show recruiters you are capable of being a leader off the field, you will stand out all the more.
In the closing paragraph, mention what you expect to gain from the experience of playing at the program. Reiterate here how much you want to play for the program you are writing to and let them know you would like to hear from them as soon as possible. Sign your name.
Include your contact information here too: pertinent addresses and phone numbers as well as your email address.
